Tuesday

this is the start of one of my prints, this is the style in which i have decided to go for. i like the idea of mixing real life photography with my own drawings.

Thursday

I have been looking for ideas for themes and styles for my print designs.
I started looking at the Elsa Schiaparelli website as i was researching for my dissertation and just fell in love with this quirky, surreal look. I feel that i could come up with some really interesting and bold print designs in this style.

I also came across a website called www.thetravellingtiles.com
This again is a very quirky website and the artist creates these images (below) and puts them on tiles. I think that these are all gorgeous images and they all go along the same surrealism theme.

Final Major Project

Over the last couple of weeks i have been researching and collection information for my final major project.

I want to develop my skills as far as i can, therefore for my initial ideas have decided to create a collection that has been inspired by lingerie, or outfits that have a lingerie feel about them.

These images are from Dolce and Gabbana have really inspired me. i love the shapes created and the feel of lingerie about them. I feel that doing something like this for my final major project will really help me develop as a student so i can finish my degree as a confident graduate.

these images taken from Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2010 collection. I love these two images, they are exactly the kind of style that i am thinking about, something that is not obviously underwear but has that feel about them.

Sunday

Studio G came into college on Thursday, and it was really interesting to see their style of work. If i compare it to mine i know that my style is very different, as Studio G seems to be very feminine with loads of florals, whereas my work is still feminine but i tend to steer clear of florals and butterflies etc.
I think it would be interesting to see if i could send my work off to them, just because it is a bit different.
During doing some added reasearch for my dissertation i came across this article. http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/2007/03/shoulder_pads_a.html

As my dissertation is on empowerment and tailrong i just thought that this was interesting.

A little harsh, in my opinion, I'll have Miss Jones know that I, like most twentysomething women I know, have ironed plenty a shirt in my time. As for shoulder pads being worn as a form of armour to warn off the big bad men... Well, yes times have changed since women felt the need to prove their power via what they wore, if indeed that's what shoulder pads were originally designed to do back in the eighties.

Jones goes onto say that since Sex And The City presented women going to work in a colourful and eccentric wardrobes, today's women feel freer to dress as what they are - women. She questions this by asking - "would you give a business start-up loan to a grown woman in a mini skirt with a bustle made of netting?" Personally, I'm thankful that I don't have to prove myself in the workplace through what I wear. I'm grateful for the roads made by those women before me who took on the men by using their dress as a means to show their worth but our situation has changed now. These days whether it's applying for a job or a business start-up loan women, just like men, are viewed on the same grounds regardless of what they're wearing.

Day 2 – today was really interesting, I spent most of the day doing work for Lucinda (the print designer) and I organised a load of the recent fashion week shows into different groups of colours so she could then look through the different colours of the entire fashion weeks to collate the information and get a colour palate.

Continuously looking at different styles of clothes and colours is making me think about the colour within my work for Indigo. I feel that i am always drawn to using darker colours, blacks greys etc, but i feel that i should be more adventurous with my colour and put more splashes of colour within my work.
This is my colour story for Indigo. I have chosen this because i have taken inspiration from blue prints and i thought that this was a particularly beautiful image. The colours all go well together and i think that i will feel confident using the greens and blues within my work to create some strong designs.

Saturday

Miss Selfridge Work Experience.

First day -

Today was my first day at work experience with Miss Selfridge and it was really exciting, I have met quite a few of the staff members, and designers. From what I can tell it’s a fairly relaxed, but hard working team.
I spent most of the day researching designers from Paris Fashion Week and printing them all off and putting them on mood boards. I think this has also helped me with inspiration for my Indigo work, as I looked at designers that I would not have necessarily have looked at otherwise, and designers that I had never really looked at, or heard of before.
I looked at this Fashion East collection and felt that it linked in really well with my work for Indigo. From this image you can see that there is a strong link to building, and i feel that this has inspired me with my work for Indigo because its nice to see building prints on a dress and looking feminine.

Julien Macdonald was another designer that i discovered today. i was drawn to the collection because of the shapes that have been created through the use of print design. I particularly love this dress because it has insipred me for my second collection for Indigo. I still want to look at bulidings, and bule prints, but i like the idea of having a second colelction that is full of very bold shapes, with hints of the blue prints within those designs.
